This restaurant has already become a popular stop for locals. It is hard to pass up a good margarita, so we each started with one. As an appetizer, the team ordered the Machitos – lightly battered crab bites with jalape?o. These tasty morsels were served with lettuce, guacamole, sour cream, pico de gallo, and a smoky and spicy dipping sauce. The extensive menu features a number of appetizers. Skellie stepped outside his comfort zone and tried the Tinga Poblana – shredded beef cooked in a chipotle sauce. This is served with Mexican rice, refried beans, and tortillas. You can also order it with chicken instead of beef. Even though we don’t claim to be food critics, we agreed that this was excellent. This is the California Burrito Jr. – a 10-inch tortilla stuffed with Mexican rice, refried beans, lettuce, sour cream, guacamole, pico de gallo, and smothered in cheese dip. Don’t be fooled by the “Jr.” in the name. This is big. Even Eric needed a take-home box for this. You have your choice of meat fillings, and he went with the carnitas burrito. Other options include carne aside, grilled chicken, ground beef, shredded chicken, tinga, al pastor, and veggie. The menu says that if you want something hot, ask your server. Ours brought a small bowl of their homemade hot sauce and it was very flavorful without being overly spicy. Cathy had the #2 Lunch Combo – Enchilada, classic taco, Mexican rice and refried beans. She had the choice of a hard shell or soft taco. Here again, some of this went home with the Petersons. We finished with Flan. You can have this with whipped cream and a cherry on top, but we went the traditional route. This, too, was very good. San Jose’s has a full bar, and plenty of seating inside… …and out. They feature a variety of specialty drinks – particularly margaritas. The service was great. Our server was knowledgeable, helpful, and very pleasant. He went the extra mile to make our dining experience what it was. This family-owned and operated restaurant has three other locations in Central Florida. Check it out. Phone: (352) 315-0198 Skellie Eats Everything recently paid a visit to The 24 Tap Room on a Saturday morning. They recently began serving lunch and now open at 11 a.m. As the name implies, they always have 24 craft beers on draft and these are in constant rotation. They also have wine, cider, and cans and bottles of beer. They are very knowledgeable about the beers they serve and will help you make the right beer decision for your taste. Second-time guest diner Carolyn Lester joined Skellie and Eric and we started with the Pub Pretzels – Bavarian pretzel sticks brushed with their garlic Parmesan sauce. We ordered the side of beer cheese as opposed to the house-made ranch dressing. These hot and garlicky pretzel sticks were not your typical pub fare. They went quickly. Skellie had the 24 Cuban, with smoked ham, BBQ pulled pork, Swiss cheese, pickles, and Dijon mustard on an Italian herb and cheese baguette. This non-traditional take on the Cuban was a hearty sandwich, and the herb and cheese bread was a pleasant surprise. Carolyn enjoyed the Shrimp Tacos, which featured shrimp, cabbage, house-made crema, sweet chili aioli, and fresh cilantro on flour tortillas. Eric’s Chipotle Chicken Sandwich consisted of grilled chicken, jack and cheddar cheese, chipotle mayonnaise, spring mix greens, tomato and red onion on the Italian herb and cheese bread. The chicken was tender and juicy and the vegetables were very fresh and crisp. That day’s beer offerings. Again, these change frequently. There is outdoor seating, along with a chance to play cornhole or Jenga. The 24 Tap Room also offers the opportunity for aspiring singers, comedians, and trivia buffs to display their talents (or lack thereof) throughout the week. Good food, good drink, good service. Closed Sunday. Accompanied by guest diners Tricia and L.J. Green, and first-time guest diner Danny Morris, the Skellie Eats Everything crew visited O’Shucks! in Wildwood. The group tested a variety of appetizers, beginning with the Fried Gizzards. If you’re a gizzard person, you will enjoy this generous portion of chicken gizzards. We also shared the Fried Green Beans which were a unanimous hit with the SEE group. You may have had these someplace else, but we are willing to bet they were not as good as these. Danny sampled the New England Clam Chowder and shared with a couple of us. This creamy chowder got rave reviews. The presentation of this thick and rich chowder is also very pleasing to the eye. Skellie, who does indeed eat everything, ordered a dozen raw oysters. These tasty Louisiana oysters were plump and juicy. The Greens shared the Fried Oysters. These juicy oysters were cooked to perfection. The sweet Coleslaw was an excellent accompaniment. Eric had the Oyster Po’ Boy and, again, the fried oysters were excellent. Everyone who tried the oysters agreed that there was no reason to say “O’Shucks” about these. They also have plenty of outdoor seating, both covered and uncovered.
